Hoi An has no train station. If you would like to travel by train, you will need to transfer to Danang first.

It is highly recommended to arrive the day before your tour if you are taking the train from Danang. This ensures that you are not arriving too early in the morning and of course, get a really good night sleep. To reach Phong Nha from Dong Hoi, it is a must to book an additional transfer. Expect to pay VND 660,000 (USD $29) each way for a private transfer between Hue and Phong Nha, in a 4-seater car.

If you are travelling from Dong Hoi to Danang, after your tour, then I would advise against using the evening train that will arrive in Danang closer to 1:30 AM. It is highly recommended to spend an additional night in Phong Nha and take the following morning train: the train no SE3 departing at 7:40 AM and arriving at 01:00 PM.

To book your train tickets in advance, you can contact or check the train schedule via the Vietnam Railway official website (English/Vietnamese).
